What is the importance of the Christmas tree lot in the novel, What Light?

This Christmas tree lot in California was first operated by Sierra’s grandfather. The business was passed on to her father. It was while Sierra’s father was working as a teen on that lot that he met Sierra’s mother. A good deal of the action in the novel takes place on this tree lot. It is where Sierra first sees Caleb.
