What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours
How does the author structure the short story collection, What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours?
.
.
The structure of What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours is of nine, interconnected short stories. Although they range in style, from fairytale and comic romp to bittersweet ghost story, the nine stories display structure in the way characters from past stories appear in later stories. As such, the structure only becomes apparent as the reader makes his or her way through the stories. Moreover, they are in general chronological in the sense that the recurring characters seem to age over the course of the stories; however, because some stories such as “drownings” and “dronicka and the st. martin’s day goose” seem to exist in a fantastical world outside realist time, the stories cannot be said to be strictly chronological.
