How does the author use simile in the novel, What I Really Think of You?

Bobby John Ringer, Opal's brother, resembles his father with his coal black hair and blue eyes with which the resemblance stops. He shows little promise for ever following in his father's footsteps as a preacher. Opal says "that would be like an ant trying to put his legs down in elephant tracks."
