How is Henry killed in the novel, Weyward?

Henry is hit by a car and killed when he and Kate are crossing a dangerous intersection on their way to school. Kate heard the caw of a crow and ran toward the sound, putting her directly in the path of the car. Her father pushed her out of the way of the car, but was not able to save himself.
