Wellness
How are Toby and Jack alike in the novel, Wellness?
.
.
Elizabeth believes that Toby’s food aversion, like that of other toddlers, is actually a fear of something new. This mirrors the feelings of Toby’s father, Jack, who is afraid of change because he is happy with the way things are. In this way, the father and son are shown to be alike at first glance. The difference arises however, when it is revealed that neophobia, or the fear of something new, is not behind Toby’s reluctance to eat. Rather, he simply does not want to destroy the beautiful presentation of food on his plate.
