The novel is written in first person from several perspectives. Each perspective is limited to that character's thoughts and observations. The reader, however, has an almost omniscient view because of the various perspectives and the dialogue that takes place between characters. For example, Simon and Baz are in a relationship but they are barely communicating with each other about their feelings. Both believe the other is about to break if off and Simon considers breaking up just so that Baz will not have to. Because they are not communicating with each other, Baz does not know what Simon is thinking and Simon does not know what Baz is thinking. The reader, however, knows what both are thinking.
