The river is where Jake and Marc spend time every other day, and where Marc learns to swim. Marc never says how wide or deep the river is, but it is narrow enough for Marc and Jake to swim across. There is a bridge near where they swim, and Jake teaches Marc to overcome his fears in order to jump off the bridge.
