What metaphors are used in Water Margin by Shi Nai'an?

The four-phase prophecy is given to Lu Da by an abbot. In this prophecy Lu Da is told to "take action in the forest, prosper in the mountains, flourish amid the waters, but halt at the river." It is a metaphor for success.
