Manhattan is where Emika hunts for her bounty during her days as a bounty hunter. She wanders throughout midtown on her electric skateboard and passes through Times Square several times. The novel returns to Manhattan during a few flashbacks, but the majority of the action takes place in Tokyo. Manhattan serves as the grounding background of Emika - it is where she grew up and it has had an indelible influence on her character.
