What is Evangeline?

Evangeline is an example of the choice between expectations and personal desires. Throughout the novel, Evangeline follows what her father wishes for her. She is betrothed to Cal, goes to battle on the frontlines of Harbor Bay, and does everything her family asks of her. However, Evangeline is bound to her love for Elane that is unnatural in every culture outside of Montfort. By the end of the novel, Evangeline’s decision to move to Montfort with Elane shows that pursuing one’s dreams in life is more important than pleasing others.
