War Storm relies on a variety of world specific vocabulary to explain how the world works. Every power in the novel has a title attached to it. Words such as magnetron, or Silvers who can control metal, and electrons, or Silvers and Newbloods who can control electricity. Even the terms Silver and Reds have vastly different meanings in this world than it does in our own. Silvers are powerful humans with Silver blood. Reds are people with Red blood who have no powers, and Newbloods are Reds that have developed powers like Silvers. However, the author does not provide any direct translation of these words. Instead, she relies on context clues and descriptions of the characters themselves. Because of this, the overall vocabulary of the novel is relatively simple, with only a few difficult vocabulary words such as “ultimatums” (468) and “presumptuous” (388). However, the author ensures that the target audience can understand everything with the context clues provided.
