How did the Creoles' lives change after Louisiana became an American territory in the nonfiction book, Wandering in Strange Lands?

The Creole people, who are descended from Africans, French colonists, and other groups experienced relatively large degrees of workers and privilege, and many of them owned slaves while a French colony. They were, however, stripped of many of their social privileges after Louisiana became an American territory.
