Walt Whitman What's the tone in "O Captain! My Captain!"? Asked by bookragstutor 12 years ago 11/28/2012 8:47 AM Last updated by anonymous 12 years ago 12/29/2012 6:35 PM
The tone in "O Captain' is that of grief and utter despondency. It is written about the assisination of President Lincoln and how the poet (Walt Whittman) believed that Lincoln's death left a great hole in the hearts of the American people.
