Thomas Fortune is one of the men attacked Monroe Trotter in an attempt to destroy the Guardian magazine by hitting it with a libel suit. Du Bois later criticized his old friend, Thomas Fortune, who's become a heavy drinker and a part of the Tuskegee Machine.
