Who is Irwin Snyder from Violets Are Blue and what is their importance?

Irwin Snyder was responsible for the vampire style murders in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is tracked down at an abandoned home filled with teenage runaways by the FBI. Though Snyder is quickly cleared of the other murders, he doesn't go quietly. He bites Cross at the end of his interview.... an injury that quickly becomes infected and takes Cross out of the investigation while it heals.
