How does the author use foreshadowing in Vampire Academy?

Before Lissa and Rose ran away from school, Lissa healed a dead raven. Ms. Karp saw the instance and warned Lissa against using her powers. Lisa is a very empathetic sensitive girl, combined with her powers, overwhelm her. This foreshadows Lissa's powers throw her into a deep depression and when she feels that her feelings overwhelm her, she cuts herself to release her emotions.
