MacFarlane travels to Greenland during the record-breaking hot summer of 2016 to witness the effects of warming on the planet’s polar regions first hand. In Chapter 10, he travels to Kulusuk Island in southeast Greenland. In Chapter 11, MacFarlane travels to the Knud Rasmussen Glacier in northwest Greenland. The glacier, named for the Norse underworld, is almost two miles long and is one of four glaciers that feed the Wolstenhome Fjord. MacFarlane descends into a moulin atop the Knud Rasmussen. In Greenland, MacFarlane feels a sense of awe combined with disgust toward the landscape that he has never felt before.
