Louis XIV (Twenty Years After) is the young son of the French Queen. Because of his age he is easily manipulated by his mother and Mazarin. The boy realizes that none of those around him, including Mazarin, don't have France's best interest at heart. At the end of the novel, the people want to see that he is still there for them, that the royal family has not left them. With d'Artagnan guarding him, he allows himself to be seen.
