The Duchess de Chevreuse, Twenty Years After, is Raoul's mother (though he doesn't know it). She had an affair with Athos thinking that he was a priest (she had a goal to despoil a priest). When she ended up pregnant she left the child on Athos's doorstep and fled. Recognizing who he must be she helps him to get a job in the army.
