What happened to Mitch’s brother?

In the Fifth Thursday, we learn that Albom's younger brother was stricken by cancer. Living in Europe, he had access to treatments that were not available in the United States. After five years, the disease finally went into remission, but he withdrew from his family during this time. He refused to allow his family to visit and didn't return phone calls or letters.
