Who is ISRAEL HANDS from Treasure Island and what is their importance?

Israel Hands is one of Silver's men. During the mutiny, Hands is left aboard ship. When Jim returns to the ship, releases the anchor, and climbs aboard, he fonds himself face to face with hands. After striking a deal, Hands helps Jim navigate the Hispaniola to safe harbor. Once the ship is anchored, Hands attempts to kill Hawkins, but he is thrown from the ship and drowns when the current changes. Before the accident, Hands impaled Hawkins with his dagger. Jim's wound, however, turned out to be superficial.
