Why isn't Dirk worried when his father is kidnapped in the novel, Treasure?

When his father is kidnapped, Dirk rushes to the rescue, though he seems totally unconcerned for his father's well-being. He claims a connection and that he would know if his father were dead, putting him at ease to face the unbelievable odds of fighting off the terrorist group that is holding the senator, a UN diplomat and two presidents hostage.
