How can the painting given to Lily by her husband be seen as an example of irony in the novel, TransAtlantic?

The painting itself can be seen as an example of irony, as the beautiful Irish countryside it depicts is something that for Lily doesn't exist. The Ireland of the painting is something that Lily doesn't really know, and it stands in deep contrast to the brutal childhood that she's tried to forget.
