When it says in the story in chapter one that it seemed as if nothing had changed clay would make wood carvings and play jokes. Does that show how Clay does not worry about his death?

Does it show that he is not worrying about the cancer

At this point in the novel, Grandpa is more worried about preparing others for his death and making sure that they are taken care of, than he is of the illness itself.
