What does Hair represent?

Bug’s hair is a symbol of gender identity. Bug has a strange dream about Uncle Roderick dressed in drag from which Bug wakes to discover her hair has been shaved off. It is only after Bug sees herself without her hair that she recognizes she is a transgender boy.
