The exposition is given in the first several chapters as Bug describes how she is trying to come to terms with her uncle’s death, yet it seems that his spirit is trying to send her a message. The action begins to rise when Moira first begins to pressure Bug to dress in a more feminine manner and use makeup. The action continues to rise when it becomes clear to Bug that her uncle is also trying to send her a message that she needs to determine her identity before she begins middle school.
