Erickson does not ignore the contemporary rumors that Antoinette had several sexual affairs, but provides counter evidence that much of what circulated about Antoinette was unfounded and unsupported. Her one probable affair with a Swedish nobleman Erickson depicts as a devoted relationship based on true love and friendship.
