How does the author use symbolism in the novel, To Rise Again at a Decent Hour?
.
.
One example of symbolism can be found in Paul's visits to several malls over the course of the novel. The mall is a symbol of him, reminding him of childhood and the feelings of excitement and happiness. He remembers being in malls as a child and knowing that he couldn't have all the things that he saw. As an adult he hates that he no longer feels that excitement about anything.
