One example of symbolism can be found in the scrapbook Lara Jean stays home to make for Margot as a Christmas present. The scrapbook is symbolic of Lara Jean’s need to create a life for herself rather than living vicariously through her sister. Rather than going out and making her own friends or pursuing her own interests, Lara Jean stays at home alone creating the scrapbook for Margot celebrating their childhood memories and Margot’s relationship with Josh. This symbolizes the fact that Lara Jean is still clinging to her way of life from before Margot’s left, rather than creating a new life to enjoy independently.
