What is Miss Alice's personal collection with her lawyer in the play, Tiny Alice?

The lawyer who handles the transfer of Miss Alice's money to the church is also her lover. Miss Alice is disgusted by the man, who is described as cruel, crude, thoughtless man, thus, we have to question the reason for their "personal" relationship which is used by Miss Alice to further her own agenda.
