Through the Arc of the Rainforest
What is the narrator point of view in the novel, Through the Arc of the Rainforest?
.
.
The novel is written from the unique perspective of a nonhuman spherical object made of plastic. Throughout the narrative, this object is referred to as either “the ball” or “Kazumasa’s ball.” Although knowledgeable about many things, Kazumasa’s ball is not knowledgeable about everything; it is not, in other words, an omnipotent, perfectly reliable narrator. The ball is an even more limited narrator by virtue of the fact that it dies (“disappears,” eaten by bacteria) in the final chapters of the novel. The narrator mentions in both the beginning and the ending passages of the novel that “all this happened a long time ago” and that the narrator is accessing a collective memory.
