The novel's climax occurs when Cat, Lyn, and Gemma have an enormous argument at the seafood restaurant during their thirty-fourth birthday celebration. The argument itself was bitter and emotionally traumatizing, but the depiction of this event (and the perspectives of the other patrons in the restaurant) are dealt with comically by the author, making the restaurant a comedic location rather than an emotional or harrowing one.
