Hank, Mrs. Q, Mrs. T, Fred, and Billy Bob are referred to as “the weeklies.” They rent rooms at the Calivista Motel on a weekly basis, meaning this is their home. These characters are kind and generous. Some of them help out around the motel and some offer guidance and information to immigrants becoming accustomed to American society. They all join in the effort to help when Jose is in danger of being deported.
