Who is Lion, and how does he react the first time he comes face-to-face with Old Ben?

For as long as the men have been hunting Old Ben, they have been trying to raise a hunting dog brave enough to tackle the wily bear. Their closes chance is a young, wild dog named Lion. The first time Lion comes face-to-face with Old Ben, he shows a great amount of heart by rushing toward the massive animal, but the young boy knows the dog is no match for the bear and scoops him up before he can be killed by Old Ben.
