How is Old Ben killed?

Old Ben is killed when Boon and Ike return from the liquor store to find that Lion has once again cornered the animal. Boon, not trusting his hand with a rifle given that he has had a lot to drink, jumps on the bear's back and stabs him through the heart with a knife. The animal rears up and then dramatically falls to the ground, dead.
