How does Cliff's move to Greenwich Village assist him in his writing in the novel, Three-Martini Lunch?

When Cliff drops out of college and is cut off from his wealthy parents, he has to move into a dirty studio apartment in Greenwich Village, where he frequents the neighboring dingy cafes to write. Because Cliff comes from a privileged background, living in Greenwich Village allows him to romanticize the noble poverty he is suffering for the sake of his art... it serves as an inspiration.
