One example of symbolism in the novel can be found in the snipping of the scissors, which represents the ending of a life. When Bri, Circe, and Marie go to the Grotto to get information from the three goddesses of fate, the golden threads are symbols of life. Marie's thread is very thick, symbolizing her long life as an immortal, but Marie and Circe see the goddesses snip her thread, symbolizing that her life is going to end. Marie does not die in this novel, but she does become mortal which indicates she will eventually die.
