How does Rabbit Lark die in the novel, This Other Eden?

In the wake of the Governor's Council committee's assessment of the islanders, they deem Rabbit mentally unstable. The family soon receives a medical document saying that Rabbit will be institutionalized. On the day that the mainlanders come to collect Rabbit, the islanders try to protect her and the family. After one official takes Rabbit out to the boat, Candace tries to stop them. A scuffle ensues, and the official kills Rabbit.
