Why does Rafa's mother allow him to break into her house in the short-story collection, This Is How You Lose Her?

Even though Rafa’s mother kicks him out of the house, she allows him to “break in” so he can steal the money that she keeps “hidden” in her room. Yunior finds out from his mother that she does this on purpose. This is her way of saying that she still cares about him and he’ll be welcome back home if he wants, but she can’t allow him back while he’s still with his wife.
