Barbara Cameron is a Native American who writes about her experiences watching the violence against her people on the reservation, and coming to understand how significant that was by contrasting it with what she observed in white culture once she left the reservation. Her essay is called "Gee, You Don't Seem Like An Indian From the Reservation" and she goes on to describe how her experience as a gay Native American served to alienate her even from her own people, and her journey towards harmony with her heritage as an adult.
