What is Angela's role in the novel, Things We Hide From the Light?

The role Angela plays in the novel is to demonstrate to Lina how much Lina’s own choices isolated her from her friends after her hospitalization. Lina had created the narrative that all of her friends left her, but after talking to Angela, Lina realizes that she played a large role in that because she pushed them away. The key to relationships in this novel is to not allow oneself to be pushed away, so in this sense, Angela and the rest of Lina’s friends were not strong enough to be what she needed.
