Who is Aunt Ethel from Things Not Seen and what is their importance?

Aunt Ethel is Bobby's aunt that lives in Florida. She is the person that Bobby's mom tells the doctor that is coming to stay with Bobby while she and her husband are in the hospital. Bobby tells everyone who asks, including Mrs. Trent, that Aunt Ethel is staying him while his parents are gone.
