Airports play an important role in Backman's explanation of the relationship between religion and war in the essay, What you need to know about God and airports. The airport acts as the setting for this anecdote, in which Backman explains the causes of war as being greed and selfishness. He specifically highlights peoples' urge to cross the yellow line by the luggage conveyor belt, which therefore blocks the view of others and causes them to cross the yellow line as well. Although seemingly unrelated to religion, airports play a key piece in this lesson about human nature.
