A man of the clan only receives one-third of the profit share-cropping yams for someone else. In Okonkwo's case, it is even more difficult because he supports his mother, father, and sisters with the crops he farms. His mother and sisters work hard to help, but his father does not contribute, so it is very difficult for Okonkwo to earn yams of his own.
