It is a week to live in peace and honor the goddess of the earth so that the crops will grow abundantly. Okonkwo violates the Week of Peace by beating his wife, Ojiugo, for not preparing his dinner. His punishment is to bring one she-goat, one hen, a length of cloth and one hundred cowries to the shrine of Ani.
