Why does Jill join the Players in the novel, They Wish They Were Us?

Jill attends Gold Coast Prep on a scholarship, though she keeps her scholarship a secret. Being around so much wealth and privilege without having any of her own corrupts Jill and makes her so power hungry she joins the Players in order to be popular and cheat her way into Brown.
