What is Rainforest Jump

The Rainforest Jump at the World Travel Arena is symbolic of Mateo’s complete transition into a more courageous Mateo. Up until this point, the reader could see Mateo making small changes and taking more risks; however, it is the Rainforest Jump which most challenges him and his fears. Mateo gets in line--to which Rufus comments “this kid has changed”- and actually is the one who convinces Rufus to jump (287). Making the jump, Mateo confirms his transformation. It is only after the jump that he finds the courage to sing to an audience, dance in a club and kiss Rufus. The Rainforest Jump serves as a symbol for Mateo’s transformation.
