What is the main setting in the short-story, They’re Made Out of Meat?

The Universe is the primary narrative setting. This galactic realm is where the two characters reside. It is also the realm they are attempting to explore and discover. During these explorations, they encounter a series of curious creatures in their "quadrant of the Universe" (3). Because of where the creatures' planet is located, the characters are "required to contact" and "welcome" them (3). Instead of doing so, however, the characters decide to cut off and erase all evidence of contact with the meat creatures. After doing so, they choose to reinstate friendly relations with a hydrogen intelligence not far off. Because this creature is more similar to them, the characters are able to imagine how hostile and sad the Universe would be if one were by oneself.
