How does the author use symbolism to portray traditionalism in the novel, These Violent Delights?

The Scarlet Gang is an example of embracing traditionalism. Unlike the White Flowers, the heads of the Scarlet Gang are all blood relatives to Lord Cai and leadership is passed down through generations. They stick to the old ways of handling things ranging from their opium rings to their clubs and politics. Many believe that it is their job to take back the city for themselves, throwing out the foreign Nationalists, the White Flowers, and the Communists along the way.
