Ten years following Ellie's disappearance, Laurel and Paul have been called to the police station because Ellie's belongings have been found. At this moment they are offered the hope of finding their daughter alive. The moment is brief and fleeting, however, as they are soon told that Ellie's remains have also been found. This is the setting for their closure but it is also the setting for the heartbreaking realization that they have lost their daughter forever.
